Lucca and surroundings
Lucca is a small town protected by massive thick 16th-century walls which have remained intact since its construction in mediaeval times. You can walk, ride or jog on top of the wide walls enjoying the views of the town and the secular trees.
From here you can see the old town full of mediaeval towers, marvellous churches, elegant shops, very good restaurants, typical food shops.
Lucca is a quiet town but at the same time there are lots of events such as antiques markets on the third Sunday and preceding Saturday of each month, the camellia fair (in March), the COMICS & GAMES and “Summer Festival”, live music with international famous singers.
Lucca is situated in the heart of Tuscany amidst other important centers such as the Versilia and Viareggio (25 kms) famous for its carnival and Puccini’s Festival; Pisa (25kms) with the leaning Tower and Miracoli square, has an international airport which offers low cost flights from all over Europe (Ryanair, Easyjet etc.).
Other interesting places for arts and nature are Siena, Chiantishire, Florence, Cinque Terre that can be easily reached in few hours (same day trip).
